stole this off of myspace...

-----------------------------------------------------

This is a tribute to the nice guys. The nice guys that finish last, that never become more than friends, that endure hours of whining and bitching about what assholes guys are, while disproving the very point. This is dedicated to those guys who always provide a shoulder to lean on but restrain themselves to tentative hugs, those guys who hold open doors and give reassuring pats on the back and sit patiently outside the changing room at department stores. This is in honor of the guys that obligingly reiterate how cute/beautiful/smart/funny/sexy their female friends are at the appropriate moment, because they know most girls need that litany of support. This is in honor of the guys with open minds, with laid-back attitudes, with honest concern. This is in honor of the guys who respect a girl’s every facet, from her privacy to her theology to her clothing style.

This is for the guys who escort their drunk, bewildered female friends back from parties and never take advantage once they’re at her door, for the guys who accompany girls to bars as buffers against the rest of the creepy male population, for the guys who know a girl is fishing for compliments but give them out anyway, for the guys who always play by the rules in a game where the rules favor cheaters, for the guys who are accredited as boyfriend material but somehow don’t end up being boyfriends, for all the nice guys who are overlooked, underestimated, and unappreciated, for all the nice guys who are manipulated, misled, and unjustly abandoned, this is for you.

This is for that time she left 40 urgent messages on your cell phone, and when you called her back, she spent three hours painstakingly dissecting two sentences her boyfriend said to her over dinner. And even though you thought her boyfriend was a chump and a jerk, you assured her that it was all ok and she shouldn’t worry about it. This is for that time she interrupted the best killing spree you’d ever orchestrated in GTA3 to rant about a rumor that romantically linked her and the guy she thinks is the most repulsive person in the world. And even though you thought it was immature and you had nothing against the guy, you paused the game for two hours and helped her concoct a counter-rumor to spread around the floor. This is also for that time she didn’t have a date, so after numerous vows that there was nothing “serious” between the two of you, she dragged you to a party where you knew nobody, the beer was awful, and she flirted shamelessly with you, justifying each fit of reckless teasing by announcing to everyone: “oh, but we’re just friends!” And even though you were invited purely as a symbolic warm body for her ego, you went anyways. Because you’re nice like that.

The nice guys don’t often get credit where credit is due. And perhaps more disturbing, the nice guys don’t seem to get laid as often as they should. And I wish I could logically explain this trend, but I can’t. From what I have observed on campus and what I have learned from talking to friends at other schools and in the workplace, the only conclusion I can form is that many girls are just illogical, manipulative bitches. Many of them claim they just want to date a nice guy, but when presented with such a specimen, they say irrational, confusing things such as “oh, he’s too nice to date” or “he would be a good boyfriend but he’s not for me” or “he already puts up with so much from me, I couldn’t possibly ask him out!” or the most frustrating of all: “no, it would ruin our friendship.” Yet, they continue to lament the lack of datable men in the world, and they expect their too-nice-to-date male friends to sympathize and apologize for the men that are jerks. Sorry, guys, girls like that are beyond my ability to fathom. I can’t figure out why the connection breaks down between what they say (I want a nice guy!) and what they do (I’m going to sleep with this complete ass now!). But one thing I can do, is say that the nice-guy-finishes-last phenomenon doesn’t last forever. There are definitely many girls who grow out of that train of thought and realize they should be dating the nice guys, not taking them for granted. The tricky part is finding those girls, and even trickier, finding the ones that are single.

So, until those girls are found, I propose a toast to all the nice guys. You know who you are, and I know you’re sick of hearing yourself described as ubiquitously nice. But the truth of the matter is, the world needs your patience in the department store, your holding open of doors, your party escorting services, your propensity to be a sucker for a pretty smile. For all the crazy, inane, absurd things you tolerate, for all the situations where you are the faceless, nameless hero, my accolades, my acknowledgement, and my gratitude go out to you. You do have credibility in this society, and your well deserved vindication is coming.

Repost this if you're a nice guy
Girls Repost if you're lookin for this/or appreciate these guys

 B*LAND UPDATE 2005!!!

okay so here's my update of the week... btw.. we went to bland, va which is a REALLY small farm town for a mission trip..

SUNDAY:  i got up and went to the bank on my way to church then to church and got blessed for our trip and after the service we stood around for an hour in the hot sun and then went to wendy's and waited because we had to wait for someone.. long story but it doesnt really matter.. so everyone rode in a huge van and i went with another one of our leaders in a subaru packed (literally packed to the ceiling) with food.. so that was fun then we got there and stuff, went to subway.. we asked them if they ever had a group that big in there before and they said one time they had 3 15 passenger vans.. so they beat us out.. then we went to this fair thing in wytheville... the music was a college band.. we wanted to dance but definitely couldnt! so we walked around and checked people out and had stalkers then we watched the fireworks and went back to bland.. idk what we did after that

DAY ONE:: MONDAY:
work crew: me, greg, caitlin, grey, alex, adam, and luke
what happened: we got up and all that stuff did our devotion and headed out to our site.. it was the same house i worked on day one last year.. we fixed a roof for this lady and were working on her sister's house so it was awesome to hear her tell us that she could go to sleep without worrying about her house leaking and how excited she was to have us back again.. so then my group painted her roof while another team painted another roof.. we had some crazy spills on the wheel chair ramp that we built the lady last year but by God's grace we somehow got all of it off! so it starts POORING and we were all upset because we were afraid that all of our hard work was wasted but we chilled with the people who lived there and it was really nice.. so then we went back to the place we were staying and played football in the pooring rain.. it was so much fun!!!!

DAY TWO:: TUESDAY:
work crew: morning-same as monday; afternoon-everyone
what happened: we got up and did devotions and stuff then we went to the same place we had been on day one.. we finished our rooves and they turned out pretty well and then we had lunch and all that and went to another site for this eccentric lady.. her whole yard was a mess of weeds and poison ivy and her house needed a paint job.. (thats putting it mildly!) so we had half our crew tear out everything in her yard and i was on the half that scraped paint for HOURS! she was a really nice lady just um.. shall we say STRANGE! so we went back to the mission center (which is where we stayed btw) and got ready and went to the keck's house.. they are a couple that lives up there and is really good friends with our pastor and his wife so they help us every year when we come up.. and they always have us over for and outrageously large meal.. that was a lot of fun like normal then we went back and probably did a singing devotion where dan (my youth director) and grey played guitar and we all sang

DAY THREE:: WEDNESDAY:
work crew: everyone again
what happened: well wednesday is always our half day when we go because by that point you need a break.. so we went back and did more landscaping and paint scraping and then came back to the house and had baked spaghetti and grilled ham and cheese! then i went and played football with all of the guys.. yea... was definitely covered in my sweat along with 4 other people that decided to wipe their sweat all over me as well.. i've got some bruises from that though and my jaw is bruised from devon (who is about 2 times my size) slamming me in the side of my face (on accident of course) and taking my earring out! anyways it was fun and we got cleaned up and went to a baseball game.. single a field team for the orioles.. they killed the other team 15-0.. but i caught a t-shirt! (its an x-large) and i got to do the hula-hoop contest on the field.. i lost because they just pick a person and the other girl was younger but i still got a prize! then i got really pissed off b/c all week they were calling me a guy but they pushed it over the top so i went and sat by myself and it was really awkward on the car ride home...

DAY FOUR:: THURSDAY:
work crew: me, greg, grey, laura, caitlin, nick, luke, and dan
what happened: so this was BY FAR the hardest day of work.. i woke up in the morning with my back hurting because of the beds probably so i took medicine for it and then i sat on a roof for 7 hours (almost consecutively) painting a roof with greg.. definitely didnt make it feel any better and on top of it we were strateling the peak of the house and sitting on it in really strage positions so we wouldn't fall off so needless to say it hurts to sit on my butt.. the roof was over 2 times the size of the roofs we did the first day and a half and we finished ALL of it with only 8 people working and we did trim work in time to go back!! it was insane! but it was so hott up there it was rediculous! we got back after lunch and we couldn't touch the roof b/c it was so hott and reflecting so much!! i actually burned my hand on it! somehow i always ended up with the most paint on my body too.. so i have a strange sunburn from being up there with random spots that aren't burnt from the paint being there.. so i spilled paint on my shoe and it leaked through on my sock and my foot is still stained! but we went back and grey and i went up and literally scrubbed my legs and arms down with turpentine using my socks and some paper towels.. we got most of it off but there's still some.. crazy farmers tan from that though! dont really remember what we did that night because i was asleep for most of it.. i did talk to grey in the parking lot of a long time without realizing that everyone else was inside already! that was a lot of fun.. we did do a singing devotion with dan and grey again and the work crew that wasnt on the roof was dancing and being crazy and the roof crew was half asleep the whole time..

DAY FIVE:: FRIDAY:
work crew: everyone
what happened: we went to a habitat house to work on it and on the way there there was a huge accident that close the entire highway both ways so we got out and played football with a mini football in the middle of the highway and everyone watched us! it was great but then we went to the site and worked our butts off as dan said.. i helped the guys dig a huge, deep whole to put a porch in and a bunch of other people but the wrap around the house and nailed like crazy.. it was fun but i was already EXHAUSTED and i couldnt sit so that was kinda hard.. then we went back to the house and some of us got cleaned up and we went to the river and went swimming.. freezing water!! but i didn't go in and we had a cookout and a worship service even though it was raining pretty bad but we were all soaked.. so then we had a foot washing in the pitch black with candles and in the river and it was so cool! we've never had a worship service at the river before cause we normally leave right after we eat. but it was amazing.. then we did something we did from last year and it was really cool and we all crashed.. oh yea and i forgot about when i took down patrick.. he told me to go down stairs or something and walked into his room and adam was like 'get him corinne' so i ran in his room and grabbed him off his bed when he was running up into it and i slammed him on grey's bed and laid on him and was like 'dont talk to me like that again' and he had a look of terror in his eyes because he was so confused! it was hilarious! but i love patrick!!

anyways all in all it was an AMAZING trip and it was so much fun! i finally got to know grey well..we're gonna hang out some.. i'm half asleep typing this b/c i just woke up but hopfully there aren't too many errors... oh yea here's some more stuff from the trip...
